Prof. Dominique Brémond-Gignac: Active Myopia Management Shows Long-Term Cost Savings

In this interview, Prof. Dominique Brémond-Gignac (France), together with HOYA Vision Care, discusses the first cost-estimation study on active myopia management in Europe, conducted in France and the UK.

The findings reveal that early intervention with defocus spectacle lenses (DIMS/MDP Technology) is both clinically effective and cost-saving, particularly for fast-progressing children. Over time, active management can reduce lifetime myopia-related costs by approximately $13,000 in France and $24,000 in the UK.

Prof. Brémond-Gignac highlights how fixed reimbursement rates and growing clinician awareness are helping make myopia control more accessible, emphasizing that early, standardized intervention benefits both children’s vision and healthcare systems.
