Myopia Management Gets a New AI Colleague: Meet ‘Ask Kate’

Myopia Profile’s new AI assistant cuts through the digital noise with instant, evidence-based answers for busy ECPs.

Myopia Profile (Brisbane, Australia) has rolled out a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool. Ask Kate, designed to support eye care professionals (ECPs) in the fast-moving field of childhood myopia management. The launch was announced during Myopia Action Month and is currently in an invitation-only pilot phase.

Unlike general-purpose AI platforms that scrape the internet (and occasionally invent facts along the way), Ask Kate is trained exclusively on Myopia Profile’s curated, evidence-based library. The goal? Quick, trustworthy answers for clinicians navigating complex decisions about pediatric myopia care.

“We created Ask Kate to help busy ECPs cut through the noise of today’s information overload,” said Dr. Kate Gifford, co-founder of Myopia Profile. She noted that while AI is a powerful learning tool, it can also be overwhelming. “That’s why Ask Kate is built on our rigorously vetted, evidence-based resources, to deliver clear, succinct, and trustworthy answers that practitioners and families can rely on to make informed decisions.”

Early users are already giving positive feedback. “Using Ask Kate has been helpful because I trust the source,” said Dr. Debbie Jones, clinical professor at the School of Optometry & Vision Science at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada). “It’s reassuring to have a resource designed specifically for our profession that provides clear, accurate and research-backed answers tailored to individual needs.”

The tool’s reliability has also been tested. A pilot study presented at the American Academy of Optometry’s 2025 annual meeting showed Ask Kate outperformed five standard generative AI platforms in both accuracy and clarity.

Ask Kate’s debut comes as childhood myopia rates surge worldwide. By 2050, nearly half the global population is expected to be myopic, with almost one billion projected to develop high myopia—a severe stage linked to retinal detachment, glaucoma and other sight-threatening conditions.

Founded by optometrists Dr. Kate and Paul Gifford, Myopia Profile has grown from a clinical research into what it calls the world’s largest multi-channel educational platform for childhood myopia. The company says it will expand Ask Kate to broader professional audiences and is developing parent-friendly versions in simplified language.
